Ugly drama without one note of feeling for what a terrorized child is going through or the nothing he's left with at the end. Fifties suburbia with it's promise of being an all-white sanctuary for dull people is such an easy target, it's been done to death. How could Clooney (how could the Coen brothers) have dropped this pile of waste? There aren't even any good performances in it. Matt Damon has taken tips from his friend Ben Affleck on how to not move his face for almost the whole film. Julienne Moore plays sisters and there seems to be no reason for the double role.

Witty and a little scary, this is the first time Hugh Grant made an impression on me. Looking forward to catching up on this Ben Whishaw's work, too. The director, Stephen Frears, walks on water.
