This is the type of film that people are going to talk about 10 years from now and say "Remember when Bollywood was good?"
Look, I'm well aware that everyone has their own preferences. Well aware that this story has been told 1299739 times already. I'm well aware it's an inspired film. I'm well aware that the PR for this film worked overtime. I'm well aware that people were being overly dramatic in the theatres. I'm well aware that it is not a perfect film.
But... this movie touched my heart.
It has been years since a Bollywood film has been able to do that for me. I've already rewatched it 8 times now, and I don't get bored. I love this film so much.
People hate on this film either because (1) nostalgia bait: A constant syndrome of "everything ten years ago was better." (2) Hating on things is cool now and lastly (3) Because they may genuinely hate it, which I understand if that is the case.
I love this film because of it's vulnerability. I love it because while Krish' character is a quintessential bad boy in the first half, his love for Vaani breaks all of that down and he undergoes major development by the second half. I love the small, cute moments of affection between the leads. I love the aesthetics. The songs. The acting. Ugh, I could write paragraphs on the acting. It's not an oscar level performance, but in a world of Bollywood nepo-kids who do not know how to act to save their life, Ahaan Pandey was a pleasant surprise. The piano scene and the last scene in the snow were standouts for me. Aneet Padda was phenomenal in this role. She's really a once-in-a-lifetime star. Her monologue in the beginning about music, the scene where she finds out about her illness, the knife scene (for both of them honestly) and just her in general. Just amazing.
Again, I know that currently this movie is commercially successful but receiving lots of hate online. I know that people call it cringe and don't like it. But this movie personally touched my heart. It's a movie I'll always remember and cherish.
And if you're reading this 10 years from now, I'd love to know what people think of this film in the future. My assumption is that it's become a cult classic.
Ciao people 🙌
