There’s nothing woke about this in the slightest. And, believe me, I’m definitely one to viciously call out whenever I sense that agendas are being pushed. If melanated Hobbits give you an aneurysm then that’s a you problem. The female characters here, despite their power and assertiveness, still exhibit the feminine qualities that distinguish women from their male counterparts. It’s all brilliant stuff, no subliminal messages to be found here, and most importantly I never once felt that I was outside of Middle Earth and instead had a director/writer/producer trying to tell me what to think as is the case with “woke” productions.
