Long gone are the days of slightly scary excitement. The woke version of Dr Who which, like an increasing amount of mainstream tv, has become a microcosm of diversity before thinking about delivering a great story and so disappoints on many levels. Trying to be all things to all people can’t deliver great television. What we have ended up with is a sprawling, haphazard version of the Sarah Jane Adventures. It’s hard to believe Torchwood came from this series but then that was when Dr Who had some oomph. The cast are fine but they aren’t given much to work with. We have a female Dr Who but absolutely nothing is explored with this gender swap opportunity. This makes the change from a male lead meaningless. Instead it comes across as wilfully trendy for the sake of it. This isn’t the Dr Who I’ve watched for decades, this is a sugar-free, salt-free kale laiden excitement free mess. RIP Dr Who

The show looks good but from then on it starts to fall apart. The script is plodding with a hapless hero stumbling round getting swathes of other people killed through his do the right thing stance. Dialogue is at times painful and there are too many characters. Only for those who have nothing else good left to watch.
