It was neat to see these actors now, but it felt more like Andrew McCarthy’s very long-overdue therapy session.
It seemed like Emilio Estevez was just trying to do McCarthy a solid, even though it made him feel awkward.
Demi Moore kindly connected and validated McCarthy’s take while at the same time modeling healthy acceptance and growth since an event well in their past.
Rob Lowe, in a very charming way, pretty much provided a sugar-coated, “get over it, man! It was an awesome time and you are sulking about it! We are legends!”
Maybe McCarthy’s roles as the “guy on the outside fringe of the cool kids group” wasn’t so far of a stretch for him. Blane was on the outside of the rich, party kids. Kevin was insecure and on the outside of the beautiful, successful, and desired posse of young adults fresh out of college. Then of course, there was the character whose girlfriend was a mannequin.
It seemed self-indulgent.
