Ok, before writing my review, I looked over everyone's to see if theirs was as mixed as my feelings were. I'll try to break it down in a way I hope makes sense.
First, graphics: 10/ 10
Honestly, nothing to complain about there. They did a great job in trying to bring our beloved Stitch aliens to life (minus Gantu of course).
Characters: 6/ 10
First off, the glaring obviously, Captian Gantu is undeniably missing from the storyline of this movie. Which, in my opinion, is disappointing... While portrayed as the main protagonist in the original, you couldn't help but feel sorry as he tried his best to follow the Grand Council Woman's orders in escorting, and later, capturing 626.
Pleakley- What can I say other than they pretty much did a good job in capturing this overexcited, earth enthusiast. Although, I kinda felt Jumba's voice should have been Pleakly's XD
Jumba- Sooo... he's the villian... honestly feels like a sharp turn in the direction of Stitch's life story. Mostly because in sequel movies, Jumba is there to help guide Lilo and Stitch, with both the addition of more experiments like Stitch appearing and even when Stitch glitches. So, if they decide to purse the storyline they started with, I'm curious to see how they incorporate it.
Nani- Some people hate that she gives up Lilo. However, I don't see it that way. Lilo let Nani go and with that teleporting gun, they weren't really apart. So I can totally accept Nani going to college even though it diverges from the original. I don't believe she broke the Ohana promise for this reason.
Cobra Bubbles- "Convinced an alien race mosquitos were an endangered species"...
Or not, because in this version, he's never had contact with aliens, rather, this seems to be his first time encountering them.
And he isn't a social worker this time, which I could get around cause it made a little bit more sense this way. But it would have made his character complete, in my opinion, if they stuck more closely to the original script.
Lilo- Pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of acting, she was perfect.
Experiment 626 (Stitch)- They could not have done better in animating this little guy. He is spot on with the crazy adorableness we all love. From causing chaos to finding his Ohana.
I won't really go over the others as they are mainly supporting characters to our main, but they were great actors nonetheless.
Storyline: 4/ 10
I don't know about anyone else, but I felt that a large chuck of action and emotional transition was missing from this live-action version. No epic spaceship chase, no ugly duckling story, or even using Elvis Presley to help reform Stitch. It seemed to focus more on the emotional difficulties of the struggling family and of the weirdness of Jumba and Pleakly, than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I felt the connection, but it felt lacking in other areas, like they were trying to show you an alternate reality to the original. Honestly, I left a bit disappointed, considering how epic the original felt for me. I think it largely had to do with cutting out Captian Gantu, who contributed to most of the action. Also, where was my exploding gun and getting hit with a blue punch buggy?!
Sorry, I was a fan of that particular part ๐
Anyways, I know this review was a long read, but thanks for taking a look. Ultimately, the decision is up to you and you'll most likely have your own take on the movie. Happy watching!
