It was worth waiting 20 years for this show.
Art is relatively faithful to the comic though some designs were updated to reflect modern advancements in technology. I was also pleasantly surprised by the animation and action quality considering Studio David is best known for budget work as typified by Cells at Work; They use 2-D animation for dramatic scenes and switch to 3-D cellshaded models for action scenes. It can get jarring but its better than the cut and flash we get in shows like Shield Hero or Goblin Slayer. Its not perfect but it gets the point across considering the budget had to be spread out over six episodes.
Storywise, its very eighties shounen. Don't expact any drama or profound ruminations of the nature of life. This is essentially Yu Yu Hakusho meets Indiana Jones/Jonny Quest. Hunt for Maguffin, get a brief history lesson on ancient culture, kill people along the way in creative action-packed ways, rinse repeat. Simple, effective, delicious like a BigMac Cheeseburger.
I had written off Netflix after disasters like Pacific Rim and Cowboy Bebop. This gives me hope for the service's future.
