I love Louise Penny's books and the characters she has carefully constructed over time. As is usually the case, it's hard for a film to live up to a book! Molini was an excellent choice to play Gamache and I liked the setting for Three Pines.
My main criticism of the film is the introduction and over arching theme of aboriginal issues through out the series.
This issue is far too complex to simply layer on top of an existing plot and waters down the entire story. And this was never part of her books. The indigenous stories deserve a platform but this isn't it. The series attempts to do too much and impacts the overall capacity to do it well.
