"Autumn Variations" . Ed Sheeran is a master of lyrics, melody and hooks. The Day I Was Born" had me thinking of everyone I know with a January birthday. "Amazing" is a song that we all needed. Who else but Ed would write an upbeat song about how it's okay to NOT be feeling amazing every day? "Blue" , especially the acoustic version, hits those emotionally high notes, and drives home the idea that when communication (silence) in a relationship is gone, it is never golden but blue (sad). Both " Head>Heels" and "Magical" capture the euphoria of new love. "When will I Be Alright" illustrates the reality of dark thoughts creeping in when feeling depressed.
"American Town" gives me visions of Ed and Cherry riding in the tuk-tuk in the documentary( The Sum of It All) talking about their date in New York rowing a boat on the lake in Central Park. All the lyrics of "England" make perfect sense too, when you see Ed and Aaron (also in The Sum of it All ) creating music at Ed's seaside music studio in England...there's the lighthouse....
Ed said this was an album made specifically for his fans. We understand it, we love it. The best advice would be ignore the critics that don't "get" Ed, he didn't make this album for them anyway.
Thanks Ed for a Great Album!
