This movie was 10/10 absolutely trash do not watch it not worth your time. Donnie Darko is a complete waste of time and a total mess of a movie. The plot is confusing, the characters are unlikeable and the whole thing comes across as a pretentious and overindulgent attempt at profundity. The film is particularly frustrating because it initially seems to have some potential. The first ten minutes are intriguing enough to make you wonder where the story is going to go. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie fails to deliver on that promise. The most significant issue with Donnie Darko is how self-indulgent it feels. Writer-director Richard Kelly seems more interested in trying to impress you with his supposed genius than actually telling a story that's worth watching. The film is chock-full of bizarre and unnecessary subplots that just feel like distractions from the main plot. The characters in Donnie Darko are also a massive issue. Donnie, the titular character, is an incredibly unlikable protagonist, prone to moody outbursts and borderline psychotic episodes. The rest of the cast is equally unimpressive, consisting of caricatures and one-dimensional archetypes. Overall, Donnie Darko is an infuriatingly pretentious and poorly executed mess of a movie that no one should have to suffer through. Save yourself the time and skip this one.
