I think most comments (in the 5 ratings) say it all.
I listened to this albumn around 20 times in 2 weeks (whilst late night driving) and am still getting mesmerised. I wanted to know the albumn before I saw the rome concert, because without knowing the songs well, you waste the time listening live. I think all songs in the albumn were done very well live.
There are certainly lots of"pink floyd" in this album, but I think Gilmour correctly avoids the "theme albumn" - after all, it is Gilmour, not Pink floyd.
It caused me to listen to a few Pink floyd (and gilmour) albumns that I have not listened for in ages....that experience reminded me how brilliant a guiratist he is, and how many hours of wonderful music he and Pink Floyd created (sometimes it is too easy to remember only comfortably numb)
I know why Gilmour say it is his best albumn since darlk side of the moon - whilst I don"t agree with that completely, I do agree that the quality is the same, and therefore he can certainly be justified to view it that way - the 3 part solo build up on Scattered is wonderful (almost brings me to tears, and close enough to Comfortably numb to make me smile) - in fact is was completely right to use this as the closing song at rome - volume turned up, the band and crowd warmed up - was great.
Regarding the rome concert, I will review elsewhere, but for me the highlight (if one needs to choose one), was "Sorrow", where the tone of guitar, and the feedback was simply awe inspiring
Finally, anyone notice that the simple rif on the barn jam is very similar to one on a Frank Zappa albumn ? (shut up and play your "guitar")....
Aren"t we lucky to have such great musicians ! - rock on David !
