Binged watched this after so many people said I needed to watch it.
I’m really not sure what it’s supposed to be; it’s not a comedy, a drama, a thriller, a documentary or a reality programme.
It’s tedious at best. The (small amount of) humour is crass, juvenile and predictable, possibly with the exception of the postie taking a bath in Tony’s house, as he needs to clean up for an upcoming appointment. Most of the humour relies (tediously) on graphic sex references or food fights, the like of which died out in the 70’s and 80’s. Such a shame it tried to resurrect itself here when it was already committed to the Afterlife…
Gervais is supported by a plethora of genuine talent which manage to make the best of the banal script (sexist, racist, ageist, etc) writing.
I predict that in 10 years time this is another series which will be relegated to the realms of ‘most embarrassing TV moments’. It’s certainly cringeworthy most of the time.
