Olivia Patrizzi has created an immersive and well designed world in Alnavara. Her likeable and relatable young protagonists grapple with issues of loyalty, betrayal, doubt, and self-sacrifice. The author treats her villains with empathy and some depth as well, giving them their own backstories.
It’s a story of allegiance and friendship with comrades, and of the growing trust and love between Anarys and Ash, whose people have been enemies for millennia. It’s also the timeless, and timely, story of the quest for power and of how each character’s innate qualities will determine how they use their powerful and individual “gifts” in pursuit of that power.
There are exciting battles and we are even treated to a surprising and satisfying twist.
I can’t wait for the next book!
