It’s definitely inaccurate and “Hollywood-ified.”
There’s the colonialism of indigenous people. (The leading lady gives her bag to some islanders and they get excited seeing a hairbrush? Ummmm...😑)
There’s the, “White-savior”, theme.
There’s the inaccurate representation of the island people/culture.
BUT...
I thought it was an entertaining movie.
It was a treat to be in it and to see the story unfold. (I’m the blurry guy behind “the most powerful man” on the island, the mayor...FYI, mayor’s aren’t the most powerful people on island. I’m in the blue shirt😂)
It won’t be winning any awards, but it’s “feel-good-rom com-connected-to-Christmas,” storyline is definitely worth the time. Just know that it’s “Hollywoodifed,” and should be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s like treating yourself to a nice dinner and ice cream, it may not be life changing, but it sure is good self-care.
