Beat the game after a few days of nonstop playing. A lot of reviewers are giving it a negative score, the top reason being they just dont understand how to play the game and dont want to bother trying to learn. In a world filled with games that hold the players hand, this game throws you straight in and says "good luck".
I understand why this might not be everyones type of game, but it sure was for me. I loved exploring new zones and seeing what future unlocks I could gain access to, hitting different rocks and items together to see what tools I could make, using those tools on different objects to see what else could be crafted and discovered, and the drive to finally walk on 2 feet which turned me into the ultimate hunter.
-Complaining that you cant explore the open world environment because of the fear mechanic proves you dont understand core mechanics (you can explore anywhere you want) Hint: look at the "help" button at the escape menu and read about elders.
-Complaining that your lineage died off after evolving proves you dont understand mechanics. Hint: have as many children as possible, you cant mate with family. You are going to want to evolve with no children at all, this means you need to jump to the next generation and then evolve as your clan size and make up carries over to the next evolution phase.
-Complaining that you couldnt figure out how to heal a wound, weather effect, or illness. Hint: Go grab random objects in the world and test them, then learn what their effects are by observing the buffs they give.
-Complaining about the combat mechanic. I really dont understand this complaint, the combat was WAY too easy in my opinion. Hint: Listen for the quick time event sound. Once you understand the quick time event sound that is used literally everywhere you will never die. I did not die one time in my play through to combat. I died once from falling and had clan mates die due to them being attacked, obtaining a cut, and bleeding out. That was my fault again as I didnt address their cut and help them heal.
-Complaining that you were killed by a jungle cat and it was your last breeding female. Hint: You are able to recruit more clan mates simply by paying attention to the first few moments of gameplay where they TEACH you how...also, you probably shouldnt be going out with your last fertile female, that sounds dumb. If you were forced into doing this, that means you died 4+ times prior to your last fertile female dying. You should be exploring areas with your elders.
-Complaining that the game is a grind. Hint: I agree it is a grind, but the grind becomes much more tolerable when you realize how to play. Carrying children around with you increases your xp gains for unlocks and its multiplied by the number of children. This is a core mechanic you need to understand, you are "teaching" the next generation.
The idea of the game is pretty straight forward. Immediately mate all fertile females. Each fertile female can have a maximum of 2 children. Pick up the children and carry them with you by swapping to different clan mates. You can hold 2 children at a time. Elders lead the clan to new locations as they are not affected by the fear of unknown debuff. Once you establish a new settlement you should have a huge chunk of xp to spend on new unlocks. You should only care about unlocking as many upgrades as you have children, as that is the only way to keep the upgrade permanent. Once youve successfully jumped a generation you are able to inspect the bones of your clanmates for a huge chunk of xp. You do this the same way as before...have as many children as possible observe you inspecting their bones. Rinse, repeat, explore, discover, unlock.
I could go on and on. Its a shame that the future of this franchise is at risk simply because modern reviewers suck at gaming. I really hope there is DLC or sequels.
You make your own goals in this game, thats the best part.
