I keep finding myself working back through Polly’s work. This album came to me from my Uncle’s collection of cd’s when he died last year, he was in his eighties. It’s been playing in my car almost ever since, along with Bubblegum(Mark Lannegan) and Hey What(Low).
Polly has a zeal, an energy which is infectious. This is very guitar, she’s an accomplished player who avoids noodling nonsense, and a strong singer with range and feeling, sounds like she lived it and she means it. There is a sense of humour and cheek too, to balance intensity.
I can’t pick tracks, I’m old school, I listen to an album, I don’t cherry pick, today’s streaming culture leaves me cold, and many musicians broke! I suggest you buy this, enjoy it and investigate PJ Harvey some more, I know I will.
