Fun, action-packed, and scientifically realistic as confirmed by the renowned storm chaser Reed Timmer. Of course there's some movie magic, but for the most part it's very real, and even the ending is scientifically plausible.
Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt, a lot of people weren't paying attention and missed a lot of the movie or they're upset that this movie can't replicate the nostalgia of watching the original long ago. Those feelings are valid, but this is an incredible movie undeserving of blind hate. As a stormchasing and meteorology enthusiast, I was really impressed by just how accurate the majority of the science in the movie is. The producers interviewed plenty of real stormchasers and meteorologists, which was a smart move that allows any weather enthusiast to walk away happy. The CGI was impeccable and the characters were both well-written and lovable.
Representation is very important in movies as well so that everyone can feel seen in the media they consume, and I appreciated seeing a varied cast. It was also nice seeing a younger woman as the focal character. Assuming that she can't be an expert due to her younger age or even her gender is a dangerous assumption for sure. She has no magical sixth sense, only an understanding of real meteorological phenomena that were greenlit by real storm chasers and scientists. Like one of the messages of the movie, you shouldn't underestimate anyone. No one worships the main character - in fact, most of the other characters who don't yet know her well continually doubt her or insult her abilities. But most of them do grow to respect her as she actually knows her stuff. The character arcs are believable and rewarding, and the action kept it from ever becoming a bore. I'd rate this movie a 10/10, especially if you love meteorology. But I went with my grandma who knows nothing about meteorology and she thoroughly enjoyed it for the characters as well.
