My love for this one snuck up on me. While I've heard good things about Zakiya's work, this is the first book of hers that I've read - and I wasn't convinced that I was loving it at the start. It's a story of love and karma set in the heart of Manhattan. That quietly gave way to an emotional, laidback story that got lighter and sweeter as it went. It's an emotional - potentially engaging - story that's subtle yet strong, and it 100% won me over by the end.
It's an amazing story of our female protagonist Nera, who is unfulfilled in her marriage by her narcissistic husband, Gedeon. Gedeon is only a husband according to the courts. No one would anyone consider him for the actual label of husband. His disregard for Nera's basic needs and emotional abuse leads her into the arms of Cosmo. That blurb is just the tip of the iceberg; this is a HEAVY and emotional read for much of the story. There's also plenty of triggering content, including loss of a loved one, addiction, mental emotional abuse, trauma , narcissism - and more. Essentially, this follows Nera's marriage is childless and Gedeon wants it that way, unfortunately for Nera. Nera soon hears the call of Nature in Cosmo's arms, falls in love, and soon he is the father of her child.
This quiet, angsty and emotional read. I loved the character development ,which strengthened with every page. The overarching theme is definitely one of HOPE. Have a little patience with this story, and you'll be rewarding with one fulfilling read. Zakiya dazzles with this deeply felt emotional roller coaster…with its uncommon depth, Zakiya’s story will elicit tears in some places, Emotions in others. A stellar cast…Readers will be hooked.
Romance readers who crave drama, trauma, and tears flushed with every humanly emotions will devour this book.
