I have read most of his work (SiFi), started late 60s early 70s. Time Enough For Love is my favorite. There are little nuggets of wisdom all throughout this novel in (my opinion). You could do much better by trying to emulate Lazarus Long than most of the current crop of celebrities, sports stars, musicians etc. I HIGHLY recommend this novel. I especially like his sense of morality, he would not be happy with the present state of affairs. In fact he predicted our current situation.
