I, like many others opted to watch this movie because it was creating so much hype on social media platforms.
Karan Johar is not a name I would take when asked about Directors I love, but I must admit, this for me has been his best so far.
RARKPK is a very good movie and even though some people feel like there are too many social messages in the movie, I don't think so. In India, we don't restrict marriage to union of the two individuals but also include their families. I feel it is natural for someone to want to know everything about their fiance's family before getting married to them.
This movie focused on the matters that are seen as societal issues and can be solved one family at a time.
(The reason why I find it more acceptable is because my significant other is also a Bengali and we often face this.)
Situations like these where men are asked to not feel emotions, women are asked to suppress their passions are not that uncommon even in 2023. Masking oppression under the traditional practices prevalent in the family and treating any difference in desire as rebellious behavior is present in every family to some extent.
We, as an audience, often ask for more meaningful movies, even if the category it falls under is Romance and Comedy. This is an example.
It might feel forced because we don't have many like these yet, but I feel like this is one of the movies you could watch when you want a family movie that is light-hearted and also meaningful.
The reason why I have given 4 stars is because I feel that Alia and Ranveer's chemistry is a little odd. Both have done their roles just how you would expect them to, just the 'jodi' doesn't convince you the way DeepVeer or Varun-Alia does.
