First, let me state I love Lord of The Rings, and all the works of Tolkien. I have watched the series so far, and I have read his books, and the understand the Lore and his personal letters and writings. The Rings of Power episodes are not Tolkien in the same way a picture of bread is not actually bread, but are just a cheap deconstructed facsimiles of the genuine article. The only connection to Tolkien is the rights that were given to Amazon in order to use names and likenesses of well established characters. The story is really a ripoff of the beloved Peter Jackson movies, but done in such a way that feels cheap, rushed, unintelligent, nonconformity to the original cannon, and complete devoid of the heart and soul of Tolkien. It’s a shame. However, if you’ve never read Tolkien, or seen The Lord the Rings, you will probably like this show. It does have good visuals, and an interesting story taken by itself without trying to connect it to Tolkien. If you’re a Tolkien fan, and I mean an actual fan who has read all his works, lore, and personal letters, then stay away.
