Resident Evil Village is a great successor to RE7 and a nostalgia trip for RE4 fans. It is fully aware of what the series is, and fully embraces its cheesy, bizarre, creepy roots.
It's constantly jumping from horror to action and you never know which is coming next, with beautiful and haunting ambience in the village in between.. It's definitely more of a horror action game than 7, and I get how that could be a turnoff to some people, but it's a wild ride and when you're surrounded by lycans it will certainly get your blood pumping.
Would I have preferred it to be scarier? Yes. Does Resident Evil have to be terrifying to be a successful part of a fantastic series? No.
It won't be for everyone, people will complain there aren't zombies like they always do despite RE always being a series about BOWs. But I'm going through again to beat it on Hardcore and I couldn't be more excited. If you're a fan of the series, definitely check it out, if the game seems appealing and you've never played a Resident Evil game before, definitely take a chance on it.
