From the beginning, we were promised a movie that was faithful to the games. Yet ended up so far from them. The acting was terrible, and the cast did not bring our beloved characters to life. Avan Jogia as Leon was the wrong pick, he made the character, sloppy, dumbfounded, and a borderline drunk who doesn’t care about his job. He didn’t know how to shoot and seemed lazy. It is shameful to the character we know and love as Leon S. Kennedy. Chris and Claire had a relationship that made me feel like they hated each other with a passion. Claire’s personality screamed bratty and careless. Chris’s was in the void because there wasn’t a lot of screen time to show his charisma and passion, yet even in the small bits, we got it wasn’t there. The S.T.A.R.S team we know and love was completely off from the games, Jill being flirty, with no responsibility, Wesker being small-minded with no knowledge of the stuff Umbrella is all about. He thought about his team like a bunch of frat boys, yet in the game, he used them as his guinea pigs, the villain of the story. As for the plot, there wasn’t one, it was nothing but shooting scenes and the f-bomb. There was no storyline to follow, it jumped all over the place, missing key things from the game. One of the key things missed was how Claire and Leon met and how we saw their personalities in first light, Leon being an intelligent, brave but under-confident rookie police officer late to his new job, Claire a strong-willed, tomboyish girl with a strong close bond to her older brother Chris, showing her caring, and strong-willed as she came looking from him after he had gone missing. The only thing they possibly could have gotten right was the two well-known establishing shots and the creature we know as the licker, everything else was honestly a confusing jumble as if they rushed to finish this. With all of these things, I sat in my seat bored out of my mind, cringing at the acting and the little bits of a plot we did have. I didn’t expect it to be 100% like the games, but the cast, acting and the story could have been better. As die-hard fans of the series Resident Evil, we deserved better. This was one of the worst movie adaptions I had ever seen, and am completely disappointed with what I saw.
