I guess I'm going to be the villain out here for giving a 3 star rating. For a non Malayali guy to be watching good movies irrespective of language is something that movie lovers should love, right:)
So, Yes people may say that I couldn't understand and relate to Malayalam nuances. All said and done, even a silent movie can speak a lot!
And my review is basis of what i felt worked and didn't work .. ideally I would have loved to give a 3.5* rating but that option is not available.
The Good - acting. The lead actor (Oliver twist) is phenomenal and so is his wife. The old age nuances, the vulnerability, the mixed bag of feelings come out so well. It just doesn't feel like acting!
Others have done complete justice to their roles except for the psychiatrist.
The subject matter is different, lively and refreshing! No violence, no stupid comedy or over the top scenes. That sets this movie apart!
The bad - I'm still wondering what was wrong with Anthony. Was it writer's block or digital addiction or pure laziness. Or was it a mix of all. He plays the central role around which the movie moves and this hollowness of role didn't really make me comfortable.
- If he has issues at home, why does he order gifts?
- why does he take his father along to movie set when he can't evn converse with him?
Yes, there are justification for all these points, however, it's not seamless as the acting!
The ugly - Cliched ending. I'm sure many would have guessed that the savior act of Oliver would be related to Priya's family somehow ... It was building towards it. The director acted oversmart here I think. While it was emotional, it was on expected lines.
It's a movie that moves at its own pace..There are some unexplainable twists and turns but nothing that you can't overlook. Heart warming, super acting and something to watch with cup of coffee on a lazy weekend.
