He was the absolute best. I liked Jack Parr too, and Early Letterman was off the wall, great. The talk shows now are just awful. Phonies, talking to phonies. The last few years, maybe more than that, you could tell that Carson was different. A little grumpier, hardly any chit chat w/ Ed, I'm not sure what had caused the change. I still watch the reruns when he has someone on that I want to see.....even if it was from 40 or 50 years ago :)

Voltaire was the greatest of philosophers because he was an anti philosopher. He had no new scheme, no new ideas on man, because he always saw things as they were. Candide was my first encounter w/ Voltaire, and it was a great story that highlighted Voltaire's ability to see and understand reality, while pricking a sharp knife into the belly of authority w/ his logic.Which led to his imprisonment in the Bastille. If you're reading a translation into English, make sure you read the various translations. I had two copies of Candide that were translated by different people, and reading them side by side showed large differences between them. No two translators are ever going to use exactly the same words, and this is very true w/ Candide
