I'll start this off by saying I am no avid movie watcher, so feel free to question the worth of my critique, but I like what I like. Like every other Robert Eggars movie I've seen, this was a visual feast. He has a way of making nature co-operate with him. Some scenes are just breathtaking, especially the ones shot outside.
The acting also in my opinion was stellar. Every single majour casting proved to be worth watching. Now after all this high praise why only 3 stars? The pacing seems a bit slow three quarters through the movie. The plot again is also pretty basic and flat. It suffers in favour of style and atmosphere. It demands you to fill in blanks yourself, or just imagine bits. The subpar plot stops you from caring about the characters and the outcomes at the end. It's a good movie, and I so oreciate its artistry. There's an underlying tone of poetry woven through each scene: However it fails to provide sufficient enjoyment, at least for me.
