“The reader will feel as though Harry Potter is meeting Alice in Wonderland” - Kirkus
This wacky, wonderful and enchanting book is part of an intriguing series that will make you want to read more and more. Every chapter ends on a cliffhanger, as we follow Morrigan and her new life in Nevermoor.
Nevermoor is about a young, cursed girl named Morrigan Crow who lives in the republic with her family. She is set to die on Eventide, or is she? She is blamed for all the towns problems and deaths. On Eventide, she is swept away from her deadly fate by a charming man named Jupiter North who helps her “cheat” death. He then smuggles her into the fictional city, Nevermoor where she is to complete the trials into the Wundrous Society. Along the way Morrigan makes friends such as Fenestra, the magnificat and Hawthorne, her best friend, though making friends also makes enemies, such as Ezra Squal. She discovers her very unique talent and learns new things along the way. Though, if Morrigan fails her trials into the Wundrous Society she will have to return to the Republic and die in the hands of the Hunt Of Smoke and Shadow.
Jessica Townstead uses descriptive language to immerse the reader into the world that is Nevermoor. She also uses lots of imaginary words that make this book have a personality of its own! She introduces the plot gradually making the book more interesting and hard to put down. When you reach the ending of Nevermoor she raps it up, though in the next book “Wundersmith” she continues where she left off making the books easy to understand and read. She introduces Morrigan and her family in the republic and as you read on you will be introduced to Morrigan’s new family and friends in Nevermoor.
This book is one of my favourites to read and I love Jessica Townstead’s engaging writing! On the down side, I wish I could have seen more of Cadence Blackburn, though this is only because she is my favourite character. Nevermoor is so imaginable it feels like you are taking the words off the paper and making an image in your mind! I give it a solid 5 stars because it is an incredible story that kept me entertained and reading for hours!
I definitely recommend this book to Harry Potter fans as well as kids and adults. Nevermoor is so engaging that it will suit nearly any age 8 or over and it is very similar to Harry Potter. If you like friendship, a pinch of horror and some fantasy, well read Nevermoor because this book packs all of that into 478 pages. Overall, Nevermoor is an enchanting, marvellous book that I definitely think you should read!
