First of all, I would like to say at face value that this is probably one of the coolest fitness games I have played. The idea of meshing the best parts of Wii Fit and some RPG style elements is fascinating. There is definitely a lot to do.
However, where the game has been coming undone, quite literally, is not the application, but the hardware you use to play it. Since this is review is not in-depth, I'm not gonna bore you and cut straight to the chase. At times, it works fine, and at other times, it is wildly inaccurate. As someone who is quite overweight and wishes to lose weight through many ways, I chose to do Ring Fit Adventure. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is me, but the joy-con leg strap will not stay around my thigh. I have checked and it will not stay. Today, the device threatened to fall down my leg more than five times. The game recorded that my exercise level wasn't even that high, so rigorous exercise as the excuse is completely out of the otption. This is made far worse by the fact that this peripheral is required by the Switch to sense and track your body movements. It honestly would have been far more convenient if the game just simply designed it around the ring, because that actually works well for the most part.
The only reason why I am giving this a passable score is because of its wide variety of options to lose weight, and its excellent social gathering functionality if you are so inclined. However, its technical difficulties with the hardware mean that other methods of video game exercise that I partake in for weight loss - such as Rock Band drums and Dance Dace Revolution - pun somewhat intended, run rings around it. I will give this game a few more chances, but its skating on very thin ice.
