I liked the concept of this film, but I feel like it was missing a lot of character development. Frankly, the best (and maybe only) developed character in this movie is the cheeseburger.
If we're supposed to hate these people, the "takers", they failed at that. The audience is more amused by them than hating. And the backstories are one dimensional. The direction also felt more like they were filming a play than a movie.
I like the premise...I just think the writing failed to deliver on the premise. And I think the acting is fantastic, particularly Nicholas Hoult, but there was just not enough there on any of these characters to really "sink your teeth" into it. And you're also left wondering why they just all sat there and let the plan go on...wouldn't you fight? I think the writers wanted the impression that these people are too selfish to work together...but they missed the boat on showing us that as well.
Overall, a B+ movie, but frustrating because it was so close to being brilliant and one for the ages. Instead, it is a one trick pony.
