I really enjoyed this Netflix series, however I do believe It was written with a lot of bias, as all stories told are, depending on whoโs telling it. I couldnโt help but scan through the comments in search of feedback from people from that community to see how they felt they were portrayed. Upon reading a few reviews from the Jewish community and people with similar religions they feel, they were poorly portrayed. That feeling really hits home for me as a black woman and how blacks are constantly inadequately portrayed in the movies, news & media. Not to mention how slavery is always overlooked and belittled as if it is something that never happened and that we should just move on from it, when the reality is that there have been several generations of oppression, and systematic racism that Still continues to thrive in America/world today! I hope shows like this encourage people to get to know one another for themselves and through experience instead of through stigma and stereotype. Nonetheless, I look forward to the next season to see if Esty returns to give Yanky a second chance as I think she should given the fact that he seems willing to give it his all the next time around for the sake of their family.
