Watched the first season and have now made it through S2 E5, and I have to say, both my wife and I have expressed how painfully S-L-O-W it is getting. It’s almost as if the writers are doing everything they can to stretch this storyline out. Thank goodness we record it and can FF through the many commercials on FX.
Numerous times it became almost comical that we could predict when the main characters were going to engage in yet another insignificant, inconsequential (unless the “consequence” was to successfully drag the episode’s scene out to the next commercial break) conversation about something one of them said under their breath 35 years ago in Afghanistan as they were killing a goat. Or, “what did you mean when you said ‘nothing’” (long pause followed by a grunt and a longer pause)?
Maybe I need to be in a more accepting frame of mind when I hit PLAY on this recording, but it’s becoming clear that 2 episodes could easily be edited into one, if the goal was to make series more addictive.
Needless time-wasting scenes aside, I do like the plot line, the twists, and the acting caliber of Jeff Bridges, the action scenes (however increasingly rare). But Lord-sakes! Lithgow’s character is such an excruciating whiner!
But JB is still worth sticking with it.
