We viewed this film on the big screen in a theater, which does add more grandeur to its “primordial” scenes. We both enjoyed the flick, but me more so because I thought it offered the viewer a rare glimpse into a timeline of human existence on a single parcel of land. It showed each of us just how brief our own time is along that continuum. It was a unique perspective never explored before. It’s worth noting that the shifting from one era to another, then back again, is a feature you get used to with the help from the smaller screen-in-screen corner window. My wife said she never got used to that feature.

Watched the first season and have now made it through S2 E5, and I have to say, both my wife and I have expressed how painfully S-L-O-W it is getting. It’s almost as if the writers are doing everything they can to stretch this storyline out. Thank goodness we record it and can FF through the many commercials on FX. Numerous times it became almost comical that we could predict when the main characters were going to engage in yet another insignificant, inconsequential (unless the “consequence” was to successfully drag the episode’s scene out to the next commercial break) conversation about something one of them said under their breath 35 years ago in Afghanistan as they were killing a goat. Or, “what did you mean when you said ‘nothing’” (long pause followed by a grunt and a longer pause)? Maybe I need to be in a more accepting frame of mind when I hit PLAY on this recording, but it’s becoming clear that 2 episodes could easily be edited into one, if the goal was to make series more addictive. Needless time-wasting scenes aside, I do like the plot line, the twists, and the acting caliber of Jeff Bridges, the action scenes (however increasingly rare). But Lord-sakes! Lithgow’s character is such an excruciating whiner! But JB is still worth sticking with it.
