Honestly I really enjoyed this movie, I am a born again Christian and I know that although some elements of the movie were not Christian, It is far more reliable to seek the Truth in prayer, read the Book of Revelations and seek God’s guidance when facing questions like this of whether Heaven is real or not.
Whatever this boy’s experience was, I believe he was telling the truth of his own account and I am not discrediting it but I just feel as though a lot of these comments from Christians are right. Not everyone gets into Heaven and it is only by accepting Jesus into out hearts, believing that He died on the cross for our sins, and doing our best to live according to His commandments that we get into Heaven.
Unfortunately, regardless of how touching and well-scripted this movie was (it truly was executed exceptionally), I have to agree with the other Christian who commented below that this movie does indeed portray the universalism heresy that everyone gets into Heaven when in reality, it doesn’t work that way. The storyline was beautiful, the cast was phenomenal (that little boy deserves an Oscar), but if you want the Truth, look no farther than The Holy Bible. Jesus said himself, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6, NIV).
Traditional Christian doctrine, especially among Evangelicals and many Protestant denominations, teaches that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone (John 14:6, Acts 4:12), and the concept of universalism (the belief that all people will ultimately be saved) contradicts this teaching.
