Amazing game. Whilst there are negatives, such as ARR and (in my opinion) SB, the game is worth it.
The class and job systems are really expansive and let's you roleplay, be who you want to be, and find a rotation and aesthetic that you enjoy. Want to be a destructive mage with a cool glamour? Go ahead! Want to also be an edgy tank with a massive sword? You can do that on the same character! And the rotations are fully satisfying and there is such a wide variety that you will find the one that fits. For me, Dark Knight was my main, then Black Mage, and since Endwalker, Reaper.
The story is amazing at best, horrible at worst. ARR was a slog and absolute grind to get through. It does well with world building and introducing you into the world, the people and the Scions, but the amount of unnecessary filler really kills it. Heavensward is a great redemption. More character building (especially my redditor child) and a heart-wrenching story of war. Stormblood was a mess of too much to show, but not enough detail. There's a lot to do and see, but not expansive enough.
Shadowbringers? I've made 5 characters just to play through it 5 times again with different looks and classes because the story was just that good. It's the expansion that really made me invested in the game.
Endwalker just came out, but my god it is amazing. Up to lvl 83 quests and it's already so detailed, intense and well written.
The community is wholesome. I play in Elemental, so Japanese servers (going to move to the Oceania when 6.1 drops) and the people there are amazing. You run into a few bad eggs, sure, but they aren't representative of the whole. You fail to heal the tank in time? 'I'm Sorry', 'Don't worry about it!', and the whole party gets back to playing - sometimes the tank lessens the pull just to help out.
And with many reviews saying horrible things about the queue times, it somewhat annoys me. A new expansion just launched, the devs added many mitigations and strategies to reduce server issues. It can get annoying, sure, but having a negative review just because you started playing the day the new expansion launched and thinking that instant queue times would happen is just really bothersome.
