This was quite literally the best film I’ve ever seen. I may be biased, because I love Deadpool, but it truly was a masterpiece the likes of which Marvel hasn’t produced since Infinity War: Endgame. I would go as far as to argue Deadpool and Wolverine surpasses Endgame, because it somehow managed to execute universe-crippling stakes with a down-to-Earth message that had me tearing up. It creates a portal straight into the world of story, keeping audiences immersed in beautifully choreographed (and delightfully bloody) fight sequences, hilarious dialogue, and meaningful character arcs from start-to-finish. Truly, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch another film for some time. This one gave me everything I wanted and more, and I will most definitely be seeing it multiple times in theaters.
If I had to give just one criticism, it would be the desire for more. This film could have been five hours, and I would have sat with a smile on my face the entire time. In all seriousness, an extra forty minutes might have been worth it, because I couldn’t help but crave more time with Wade, Logan, and all of the characters introduced. I wanted more of their conflicts, jokes, and—of course—incredible fight sequences. Here’s to hoping there’s a Super Duper Cut on the way!
All in all, this movie made me smile wider than I have in years. If Deadpool doesn’t come back for a 4th installment, it may be the last Marvel masterpiece of our time. I don’t think anything in their lineup will ever excite, entertain, and inspire the way Wade Wilson and Logan just did. They’re, by far, two of the best characters to make it to cinematic adaptation, and I’m grateful every day to have experienced their stories.
Watch this film, in theaters. It’s more than worth your time. After the disastrous Multiverse of Madness (and all the lackluster TV shows), I swore I’d never give the MCU another chance. If you’re in that place, rest assured. Deadpool and Wolverine was not made by the same people who only saw soulless capitalist triumph in the superhero franchise. This film was made with love, passion, and unbridled creativity we haven’t seen since the early X-Men films and the very beginning of the MCU. It’s a labor of love in every sense of the phrase, and a testament to what happens when artists create from their hearts, not their pockets.
Thank you, Team Deadpool and Wolverine. Thank you for the most incredible cinematic experience of 2024 and one of the most wonderful days of my life. I’ll never forget the way I felt when those opening credits began, and when the final scene went to black.
