OMG! Just saw Top Gun Maverick - incredible! So many more emotional levels and Tom Cruise really cut his acting chops on this one - awesome work all around. I love the references to the old Top Gun - from the very opening scenes with the familiar theme and pace of the guys guiding the planes to the bar singing and then Cruise coming in for his class (just the way Kelly McGillis strode in) . And, of course the football game was a blast and it is great the way Cruise is in fine form next to all of those young bucks. Tom Cruise showed a lot more humanity and humility in the face of Jon Hamm and Ed Harris. The scene with Val Kilmer was heartbreaking and perfect. Didn't get the gap in the relationship with Jennifer Connelly - could not tell if it was serious or if the child was the result of their relationship. The chemistry was not as hot as the original relationship with McGillis. The aerial scenes and fight scenes were masterful and jaw-dropping and I love that they didn't wrap it up too quickly See it - it is a blast from the past and the future!
