There totally isn't any review botting here guys. Source: dude trust me. As there's several reviews that all start like, "Rebel Moon is a stunning sci-fi epic that delivers on almost every level! Zack Snyder has crafted a visually spectacular and emotionally engaging story that takes us to a galaxy far, far away, but also feels very relevant and relatable. The film is clearly a homage to Star Wars, but also a fresh and original vision that expands the genre and creates a new mythology."
They just change around the words a bit, but it really speaks to the quality of the movie to have people doing this as in reality, Rebel Moon is nothing more than a poor retelling of other movies with hardly an original bone in it's body. Ripping off scenes, plot threads, and imagery from Star Wars, Magnificent Seven and Warhammer.
Visually the movie looks incredibly ugly, when it comes to it's cinematography as scenes look incredibly blurry for no reason at all. The color grading looks as if Zack Snyder has an aversion to using any colors that aren't black, grey, or red, giving every scene a drab, color-washed look. A great start to your new universe to have it look incredibly displeasing. The CGI and green screening make the Star Wars Prequels look like timeless masterpieces, with visuals being very fake looking when CGI has been made to look better over two decades ago.
Character work and story writing are also abysmal. Several characters setup at the beginning are just completely ejected from the movie entirely to instead have our overpowered (industrial-grade plot armored) main character go around collecting a bunch of nobodies. We hardly learn anything about these characters she gathers throughout the entirety of the movie and they barely even get any lines despite them apparently being important.
The main character as said earlier has incredible plot armor, running around in the open constantly, not getting shot at all when she's in a gun fight dozens of soldiers. Which I could forgive some plot armor if I at least like the character, but Kora is another amongst many generic, drab, boring, cookie cutter, characters out there who are thoroughly unlikable. It's funny that sometime into the movie a character calls her heroic when in a previous scene she just sat there and watched as a child's life was in danger meanwhile another character: Gunnar risked his like to save that child and gets called a coward later in the movie. We have to have someone in the movie literally tell us that Kora is a great person when she stands idly by, while Gunnar does an incredibly selfless act and gets no acknowledgement for it, what a joke.
The only performance I liked to some extent was the villain: Noble. He's very cartoonishly evil, completely irredeemable, and I think his actor does a fairly decent job portraying him.
If there's any takeaway from this movie is that Zack Snyder can't write a story to save his life and if the Rebel moon movies are what finally sink his career then good riddance I say.
"Release the Snyder Cut!" Get Bent.
