A fascinating story about an array of fascinating characters, including Lalun, the eloquent, respected prostitute and socialite whose brothel on the city wall is a popular gathering place in the diverse and colourful, though often fractious, city.

Excellent biography of Mr Smuts by his son Jannie. Is perhaps slightly biased toward his father. Nonetheless, the book is thorough and highly engaging to someone with an interest in South Africa & its history (as I did, though my knowledge of Mr Smuts was next to non-existent prior to my discovery of the book).
