Just seen the screening with Jodie Comer who was, as everyone says, incredible. However, imo, the play itself is flawed. It's preachy, didactic and overly polemical. It was full of simplistic messages about a really serious issue, meaning that it felt like I was in a law lecture rather than a play. Imo it's better to use dramatic devices to get a message across within a play, rather than the playwright using a character to lecture the audience....show, not tell! Also the contrivance of having the main character voice all the parts felt forced and, therefore, took away from the dramatic impact. It was also patchily paced, giving it a baggy feel...in fact it was a bit boring near the beginning. On the plus side, the rape scene was powerfully played by Comer. Overall I
was not as engaged as I should have been by a play about such an important issue. Shame....not recommended.
