Full disclosure - I have never read the book, nor seen any of the previous movies, so I didn't know the story. And after enduring this film, I still don't! In the shorts, the main character was complaining that women were only seen as good for marriage, nothing else. But in the end, they all got married (at least 2 unhappily I suspect) so where did that storyline disappear to? The timeline jumped around so many times that I had no idea what was happening, and the characters always looked the same so you couldn't guess the timeline by their age. I thought Saoirse did a good job, I love Emma but was disappointed in this shallow performance, and the blond girl wasn't believable at all. For me this was the worst movie I've seen all year (although I haven't seen Cats yet!). If you don't know the story, save your money.
