When you make a movie about the single most interesting military commander and Emperor in History, all you have to do is show the interesting parts of his life, which there are too many to fit into a film, so with this problem, Ridley Scott chooses to not show any of the interesting parts of his life. In this satirical comedy Scott spends a hell of a lot of screen-time focusing on a boring romance, numerous lazy attempts at jokes, and casually glosses over an inspiring and intriguing rise to power with narration from Joaquin's overly American accent. If you, like me, were incredibly excited to watch a high budget film on one of the most interesting men in History, you will find more respite in a good Youtube documentary. I am extremely bummed out.
