What brought this book series down heavily for me was how contrived the characters, namely Thomas, started to feel in their behavior. By the Scorch Trials, it felt as though Thomas was thinking and acting the way he was because the writer didn't know how to organically move the plot in the direction he wanted, and that shows completely by the conclusion.
