This book had me gasping, saying “I KNEW IT” and so much more. It was somewhat hard to get into but after a few short chapters I couldn’t put it down. Towards the end when things began to piece together I would read bits of it to my boyfriend, because I was excited about the developments and needed to talk about it. Then it got really disturbing so he asked me not to read him any more, but then after literally a few minutes he changed his mind and was begging me to keep reading it aloud. This is the kind of mystery writing that I love- the author drops subtle clues throughout the whole book, and at the end they’re all tied together. I predicted the ending less than halfway through, but it wasn’t because it was predictable per se. There was just a lot of “writing on the wall”, and it’s loaded with dramatic irony which I loved. Ellie’s story and the characters involved were deeply disturbing to me. I was so hoping that she would have a happy ending, but it was very much the opposite. At least her family had a happy ending. This is one of those books that really makes you think about the world around you, it’s somewhat of a psychological thriller or at least it was for me. I wish I could read this for the first time again.
