This film (like many of Bo Burnham's art pieces) somehow manages to take you on a journey through multiple emotions not often felt during a comedy piece. One minute you are laughing a full blown belly laugh to the point of tears, but then those tears become real due to the incredible and painful level of empathy that washes over you.
Most of the time we use comedy as a form of escapism and the reports/reviews discussing the strong emotions it invokes may be a turn off to some who only want to laugh for an evening, but do not let it deter you from watching what I can only describe as a masterpiece.
This past year was unique, yet similar for everyone. There were many times I sat at home not understanding what I was feeling, and witnessing it on screen made "That Funny Feeling..." tangible.
That tangibility was what I can only describe as an unnerving, yet bright comfort.
I cannot recommend this piece of art enough. It's a masterpiece.
Thank you, Mr. Burnham, for sharing yourself with us. We are happy. We hope you are too. Here's to maybe getting outside soon.
