Captain Noah aired when I was 16, so he was a bit after my time. However, later after becoming a child psychologist, I used to watch him and Mrs. Noah for their messages of practicing kindness, acceptance, encouragement and appreciation of differences to young children.
Unknown to most, is that Carter Merbreier was a Lutheran minister who figured prominently in the Philadelphia civil rights movement. In 1952, under threats of assassination and firebombing his house, he performed the first interracial marriage within city limits. Later, in the mid 60's, race riots were rampant in the summer. He went on the radio and called upon the black clergy to gather their congregations in the churches and greatly diffused the tensions. I'd like to have him remembered for these contributions along with his 27 years of service to young children.
