I wanted to love this movie. I kept trying to convince myself, because the acting was indeed well done (Andie MacDowell's expressions are perfect), but that's all viewers get out of this. There are way too many long, awkward scenes of nothing- no dialogue, monologue, or really much movement- with just light clangy background music. I might assume the intent was to give a real-life "awkward" vibe...but in my opinion it failed in this film. It was just painful to watch. There didn't seem to be a lot of character development in the movie either- by the end, you're left wanting some characters to have changed, or at least learned something, but everyone seems about the same by the end of the 90 minutes. Unfortunately that leaves a stale feeling for viewers, and doesn't help with engagement. Lastly, the chronology of the storyline was a bit confusing, as the scenes were very choppy. Sometimes there were flashbacks, other times the scene jumped to a different character's story, and sometimes the viewer was just confused about who these people were, when did they get there, and what the hell was going on. I had a lot of questions throughout this film, and sadly, few of them ever got answered.
I will say that the performances by Andie MacDowell and Gareth Williams were extremely convincing, so kudos for that, but overall the choppy flow and lack of development in this film was it's downfall. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this one.
