As a classical musician getting a degree in performance, this movie hurt me. The little details about his class, what he teaches; it’s just… really bad. they didn’t have enough time or money to teach Mr Holland’s actor to conduct correctly? Really? No wonder he’s having classroom problems. Expecting somebody with no experience reading music to read a bass drum part? Why wouldn’t he just tell the kid to drum on the beat? Don’t need to teach him to read music in such a crunch, problem solved. Girl having problems getting over the break on the clarinet? the FIRST solution that should’ve crossed his mind would be to get her a stronger reed. Also, too many pin drops in my opinion.
