If you go “oh hey that movie was fun I’ll check this one out” when you see the trailer - this movie is for you. If you are an actual fan of HTTYD and care about the original and what it did right, avoid this at all possible. It gives notes of the Netflix Avatar adaptation, it covers the source material well but in such a soulless way it’s frustrating. After several scenes where we physically cringed, after we had laughed out loud at the horrid green screen backgrounds, we decided to just leave during the trial of fire. This isn’t even discussing the phoned in acting, Stoic and Gobber were AWFUL and the rest of the cast felt so forced. I won’t get into the race swaps and stuff but man, they fumbled hard. Avoid this if you appreciate the source material.
