It is a highly entertaining Mainland Chinese, part-fictional, part-historical TV drama serial with a star-studded cast. Protagonists and villians alike, they all have their own aggendas taking charge of their beliefs and acting out their commitments. Obviously, the plotline is generally focused on the main leads but many of the subplots are interrelated and woven together with a lot of care. Although melodramatic in parts, with inconsistencies in the script, the characters are believable and the audience will find them easy to relate to. The Imperial Doctress may not allow room for the audience to exercise much imagination but that is not a major flaw. It is entertaining enough to glue the audience to the screen from start to finish. A stellar performance by everybody involved in this production.
