MY OPINIONS ABOUT THE MOVIE (as a fan of the other movies)
GRU: Gru wasn’t even Gru. Usually, Gru is portrayed as cool, evil (of course), and even a bit menacing. But TELL ME WHY Gru is a sissy in this movie. Just because he isn’t evil anymore (and has a newborn kid) doesn’t make him LAME. Like- we all know Gru would never let himself get exploited by a CHILD (Poppy). Also, the way they tried to make Gru seem like some sort of weird introvert- He can’t even communicate with his next door neighbor? Gru seemed really off while speaking to the guy, and even POUTED when he was told that he doesn’t act normal?? HUH?! GRU?!
MAXIME LE MAL (the bad): No literally, ‘le Mal’ is just French. But no hate on the name: It’s the VILLAIN HIMSELF. For starters, what was the point of introducing his girlfriend if she’s useless throughout the movie? The majority of her dialogue is just her making noise (laughing, specially). Anyways, back to Maxime. Not much hate on him, but his POWER? Why is it being a cockroach… Genuinely disgusting. BUT, if you put Maxime in a room with the other Despicable Me villains, he’d fit right in. The design (especially the coat) is fire. But his ability? Why? His ORIGINS? WHY? Maxime is only evil because he’s mad about something Gru did to him at a TALENT SHOW in 9th grade… What?
EDITH, MARGO, ANGETH: Kinda useless to the plot, given random scenes to feel important (the karate scene, and the grocery store scene), and… Why aren’t they older? You can’t tell me that Gru and Lucy was able to have a whole other CHILD, and they’re still the same age. And is it just me, or does Gru seem to favor his son more? Is it because that’s his first biological child, or…
LUCY: I’m confused on why nobody mentioned this, but she seemed like a housewife at the beginning of the movie… In fact, even when she was given a different identity as a hairdresser, she was still useless. Also, why did they make her so overdramatic? I’m telling you, Gru and Lucy were just parodies of themselves in this movie.
DRU: How come he’s only there at the ending? Despicable Me 3 literally ended with him stealing the Minions, so why is Dru completely unimportant in this movie?
POPPY: All she did was steal a honey badger with Gru, and then she became good. Also, the animal itself contributed NOTHING to the plot. It was only a LITTLE important when it was revealed that the honey badger had a tracker on it so the principal (owner) could find it. Also, it’s clear that Poppy is supposed to portray Gen-Z: Another failed attempt. Just like all other depictions, she’s just phone obsessed and says outdated Gen-Z slang. She calls Gru a ‘boomer’..
PRINCIPAL: She was useless. Also… How did she know that Maxime was looking for Gru? Yes, Gru and Poppy stole her animal, but that has literally NOTHING to do with Maxime.
‘Double life’: It was barely a double life. There were some scenes of the family trying to fit in, but it just felt like filler episodes piled up in one movie.
MINIONS: Parody of themselves, more disruptive (specifically to each other) for no reason. Why were the main 3 minions replaced, and why were the Mega minions useless?
OVERALL: 1/10. Waste of time. The movie is forgettable. Paused once, and I almost didn’t finish the rest of the movie…
