Absolutely brilliant show. In the first episode you might find yourself underestimating the show, predicting it to go like the umpteen other cop-thief-politician movies and shows out there. Paatal Lok has pleasantly surprised me by proving me wrong. It is one of the most well rounded shows I have seen in a long time. Hathiram Chaudhary is one of the best portrayals of your classic invisible hero, a flawed man, but a good man. The exploration of how a person becomes a criminal is truly unique to this show, with the audience almost sympathizing with the criminals by the end of the last episode. The show covers a myriad of current issues plaguing the country, but never rubs it in the viewers' faces, but just simply shows these issues as cogs in the story. Not even once does it attempt to preach on any of the issues portrayed, but simply presents them as a fact of life, as a reality of the world we live in. Not only that, it makes you think, how much do you really know about the world you live in?
